Welcome to Solutions to Infertility

HomeDeciding to start a family is the dream shared by many couples. Discovering that they can’t conceive is heartbreaking. Desperately they search for a solution to their problem.

If you aren’t using any sort of birth control, having sex on a regular basis for at least a year and you still aren’t pregnant, medically speaking you are considered infertile. There are many treatments available that have helped many couples successfully conceive. Your first step is to see your doctor.

After consulting with your doctor he may even refer you to an infertility specialist.

The failure to get pregnant in about forty percent of cases lies with the man. In another forty to fifty percent of cases are problems with the female reproductive system. For up to twenty percent of couples, the problem involves both partners in some way. For women the fertility potential declines with age. This tendency toward age related infertility may be due to a higher rate of problems with the natural occurrence of chromosomes in the eggs as they age. And more general health problems can interfere with the ability to conceive as a woman ages along with the risk of miscarriage.

Infertility can also be caused by a condition called Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). This is an extremely serious pelvic inflammation. It is caused by leaving vaginal or cervical infections untreated such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. When bacteria makes it way up through the uterus and into the fallopian tubes, ovaries and surrounding tissues, scarring can often occur blocking the fallopian tubes. When PID is treated, pregnancy is often successfully accomplished through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Another major cause of infertility is a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which is a hormonal disorder. Women with this condition find it difficult to ovulate regularly or even have the ability to do so. PCOS is very treatable with medication such as Metformin which has been proven to reduce symptoms. It helps the body to absorb insulin, thereby, correcting hormone levels. Any disease that affects the hypothalamus, pancreas, ovaries, testes, the pituitary and adrenal glands which all produce hormones can also contribute to the problem of infertility. Your doctor will often check your hormone levels just to see what is going on.

Lifestyle choices should also be taken into consideration. Things such as smoking, consuming too much alcohol or recreational drugs, weight issues, excessive exercise, poor diet, sexually transmitted diseases or too much stress have also been known to contribute toward infertility.

It may take a bit of work on your part to solve the puzzle of infertility but at the same time it will test your commitment.

It's just a matter of finding out what is going on and treating it effectively. One hundred years ago there was no recourse for infertility.
